Skippers Canyon:
Drive in comfort in the footsteps of the pioneers that dug the gold out of this harsh yet stunning landscape. The Shotover River rushes hundreds of feet below us as we wind our way along the single lane track deep into the mountains. We see evidence of their labours all around around us, abandoned gold dredges, rock tailings, water races and ruined dwellings. Try your hand at gold panning in what was once considered the richest gold bearing river in the world, while your guide brews up a welcome cup of billy tea accompanied by some tasty treats.

Macetown:
With around 30 river crossings involved in getting there, this is definitely "the road less travelled". We like that. The track follows the Arrow River through its narrower sections with multiple fords before we come out into the magnificent valley where Macetown once sat. A few ruins remain including a fully restored stamping battery that was used to crush the quartz rock that contained the gold. Your experienced guide will give you all the details of the fascinating history of the area. This is a true off road experience.

Lord of the Rings:
